I am having a problem with my guitar humming.?

Last night, I wired my guitar using a diagram like always from guitarelectronics.com. When I was finished, the guitar would emit a really loud hum if I touched anything that was metal on it, including the control knobs, the bridge, strings. I tried resoldering the ground connections to the back of the volume pot using my other 100 watt weller soldering gun because those things warm up the pots extremely well. Now, here is where it gets even more strange. If my guitar is plugged in and I touch the metal end of the audio cable, the hum goes away. I have heard that it may be something with the volume pot, but I doubt that. I bought the 500k volume pot about 6 months ago and have tried many different rewirings but still heard that excruciatingly loud hum.

Sounds like a ground problem. When you touch it you are completing the ground and the hum goes away. Check your ground solder joints. Make sure you have run the proper wires to the grounds. Check to see that your bridge is properly grounded. Also check your input jack to make your you ran the proper wire to the ground.

Is it time to change the Gun Control law after VA Tech Incident?
